Why Edly

Income-based repayment vs fixed payments

Traditional student loans often require the same monthly payment regardless of income. Edly offers income-based repayment (IBR) so payments may align more closely with a pilot's earning progression after training.

  • Prequalify with a soft credit inquiry (no impact to credit score)
  • Finance $2,000 to $130,000 toward training, housing, and other educational expenses, subject to approval
  • Stage-based disbursements paid directly to Upper Limit Aviation from PPL through CFI
  • In-school payments as low as $20/month, subject to approval
  • Payments may adjust with qualifying income after training
  • Cosigner not required; adding one may improve approval odds or rate
  • Autopay reduces interest rate by 1.00 percentage point; no prepayment penalty

Example payment comparison (illustrative only)

In one Edly example, a pilot's initial payment would be $825/month with Edly vs $2,008/month with a fixed-rate lender. If a graduate earns less than modeled, they can verify income and payments may adjust accordingly. This is not a quote for your loan.

Many pilots earn modest incomes while instructing and building flight time before moving into higher-paying airline or corporate roles. IBR is built around that progression.

FAQ

Common questions

Will checking my eligibility affect my credit?

No. Initial prequalification uses a soft credit inquiry with no impact to your credit score. Accepting a loan triggers one hard credit inquiry; Edly runs at most one hard inquiry per year from your initial application date.

How much can I borrow?

Qualified students may finance $2,000 to $130,000 toward cost of attendance, including housing and other educational expenses, subject to Edly approval and program limits. Loans may fund up to the final 24 months of a program.

Do I need a cosigner?

A cosigner is not required. Applying with a cosigner may increase approval odds or qualify you for a lower rate. Cosigner release may be requested after 12 months of on-time income-based payments following employment with an airline or similar operator, subject to eligibility.

When does the school receive payment?

Funds are released directly to Upper Limit Aviation at approved training stages after Edly certifies enrollment and each stage is completed.

Can I use Edly with VA or 529 benefits?

Speak with admissions about coordinating multiple funding sources. What fits your situation depends on eligibility, plan rules, and how your training is structured. See financing options and 529 and my529.

Important

Terms and disclosures

Edly income-based loans are private student loans originated by Transportation Alliance Bank, Inc. d/b/a TAB Bank and serviced by American Education Services (AES). All loans are subject to credit approval and program eligibility and are available only through participating schools. No down payment is required and $0 is due at signing. A one-time origination fee of 4.75% is added to the loan principal. During training, in-school payments may be as low as $20/month. After you separate from school, income-based monthly payments continue for up to 144 monthly payments (a 12-year maximum term), with total payments capped as described in your loan agreement. For representative $130,000 loans, APRs range from 11.00% to 27.00%; your actual APR depends on your income and may be higher or lower. Before applying for a private student loan, consider your federal student aid options, which may offer more favorable terms.
